Revitalizing a space to strengthen a church planting movement in Western Alaska

Dear Friend,

When our ministry started in Alaska over 8 years ago, God made it clear that He wanted to use college ministry to impact every single corner of Alaska. This vision started on the college campuses of UAF and UAA with the planting of 2 discipleship movements that have impacted hundreds with the gospel.  Four years ago, God opened doors for this impact to be expanded through the start-up of Alaska Student Partnership and the “What i Have” initiative. The vision was to see college alumni, from both Alaska and around the nation, use their degrees to become trained, cross-cultural marketplace minister-teachers amongst the 100+ villages in Alaska without a consistent gospel witness. God is indeed using college ministry to impact every corner of the state.

With an increasing number of teams in Western Alaska comes an increasing desire to keep this movement unified and resourced.  As this need arose, the Lord provided a building that could help serve this need. This is where the Hub 1 Initiative comes in. The building, when renovated, will act as a hub for church ministry in Bethel, a hub for training future marketplace ministers, a hub for resourcing ministers on the ground, and a hub for equipping future indigenous disciple-makers. Its position in Bethel,  AK, is highly strategic as Bethel serves as a hub community for 56 villages.

Would you consider partnering with us as we see this building revitalized, knowing that your investment is not just in a building and a local church? You are investing in dozens of self-funded marketplace ministers. You are investing in a movement that has the potential to impact an entire region, and you are investing in a model that could be replicated in every corner of the state. Will you join us?

Sincerely,
Paul & Crystal Burkhart

THE NEED

Over 100 villages in Alaska are without a consistent gospel witness

Complex logistics, difficulty of travel, and high cost of living make access challenging

Strongholds and darkness that can only be overcome by the Power of Jesus

The solution lies in people who are not just willing to go, but also willing and equipped to stay

THE VISION

Not just a building, but a HUB for a MOVEMENT

HUB CHURCH

This building will be a church to reach, serve, and equip the people of Bethel. We believe it will be a church for Bethel AND the entire Kuskokwim region.

TRAINING HUB

More marketplace ministers are on the way every year. The more time they spend in rural Alaska, the more trained they will be to enter the mission field.

RESOURCING HUB

Resourcing the current ministers in the field is vital for longevity and success. This building would serve as a local and accessible hub to make this possible.

EQUIPPING HUB

As local, indigenous disciples are raised up, they will need to be equipped to make disciples. A hub ministry center will create unity, indigeneity, and a connection to the greater church movement.

COME AND SERVE

Our construction trips are designed for your team to come and serve in rural Alaska with very little planning on your part. You’ll embark on a cross-cultural experience that takes you beyond your comfort zone, gives opportunities for the Holy Spirit to speak, and allows you to see God use you in impactful ways. Our team plans out all of the details (travel, lodging, food, ministry opportunities) so that you can focus on pastoring your team well.

Timeline

Construction trips are between 7 and 12 days long and take place May through July. They also include an adventure day around Anchorage to get out, have some fun, and appreciate God's creation.

Cost

HUB 1: CONSTRUCTION TRIPS are $975 per person and do not include the round trip travel cost from my city to Anchorage, AK. This cost does not include the cost of construction or project materials. HUB1 Construction teams raise additional funds for construction/project materials.
